Ingredients

Scale

Dip Ingredients

  • 12 oz softened cream cheese (1 1/2 blocks)
  • 12 oz imitation crab meat, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded white American cheese (or 12 slices)
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Wonton Chips Ingredients

  • 12 oz wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying (about 1 1/2 inches in depth in a heavy-bottomed pan)

Garnish

  • 1/4 cup sweet and sour sauce
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Prepare the Dip: In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Fold in the shredded imitation crab meat, 4 thinly sliced green onions, and 3/4 cup of the shredded white American cheese. Stir everything evenly to incorporate. Spread the mixture evenly into a baking dish. Top with the remaining 1/4 cup shredded cheese.
  3. Bake the Dip: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the dip is hot in the center and bubbly around the edges.
  4. Prepare Wonton Chips: While the dip bakes, cut the wonton wrappers into triangles. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat about 1 1/2 inches of oil over medium-high heat. Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of wonton wrapper; it should fry instantly when the oil is ready. Fry the wonton triangles in batches of 6 to 7, turning them two or three times for even browning. Fry for 45 to 60 seconds or less if they brown quickly. Once golden brown, remove the chips with a spider strainer and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven when done. Garnish the top with sweet and sour sauce and the additional 2 thinly sliced green onions. Serve the warm dip immediately with the crispy wonton chips or crackers of your choice.

Notes

  • Use fresh green onions for best flavor and garnish appearance.
  • Monitor wonton chips closely while frying to prevent burning as they brown quickly.
  • You can substitute imitation crab with real crab meat for a more authentic taste if desired.
  • If you prefer a lighter version, try baking the wonton triangles for a crispy alternative instead of frying.
  • Serve immediately for best texture; the chips are best enjoyed fresh and crispy.
